2 months ago I signed a Musee IPL unlimited underarm package for SGD $198.00.
Last sat I went for my second appointment at plaza singapura. Overall I’m quite satisfied with their customer service. However, I think the hair removal process is a little slow.
IPL stands for intense pulse light whereby the focused, broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the root of the hair where the highest concentration of melanin is located. The light is then converted to heat energy, the root of the hair shaft are instantly vaporized.
I was given an eye goggle to protect my eyes from the intense flash light during the procedure. The eye goggle is good for hiding any embarrassment too!
My underarms were cleansed with alcohol and cold gel was applied on both armpits.
Intense pulse light was applied to my armpit hitting directly at the bulb or root of the hair.
The intense heat radiated by the hair also destroys the hair-producing papilla or the entire hair follicle. As such, IPL only targets growing hair. If you epilate, you have to wait at least 2 months for all the hair to grow out to get maximum result. Thus, you have to shave frequently unless you don’t wear sleeveless.
There was little or no feeling at the first visit. As for the second visit last Saturday, I felt a few sharp pinches as though there were rubber bands snapping on my underarms! The beautician mentioned that a higher light pulse was set for my second visit to target thicker hair.
About 5 to 7 days post IPL, the hair will start to fall off from the hair follicle. After my first visit, only a few thin to normal hair fell. As for the second visit, normal to thicker hair has started to fall off yesterday. Overall I think that the hair removal process is kind of slow as each appointment is 8 weeks apart. Plus I find that the frequent shaving is troublesome.
Nonetheless, I’m looking forward to my third visit. Can’t wait to have all of the hair removed from my armpits! Given that the $198.00 allows me to frequent Musee unlimited times, I think it is quite worth the wait.
Anyway, I must stress that IPL is not a permanent hair removal method but a permanent hair reduction method. After a few years, fine hair might still grow back but not as much and thick as the pre-IPL stage.
